Kevin Pietersen has signed a full contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board, extending the four-month contract which had been due to expire at the end of January and which covered his reintegration into the English cricket team.

Pietersen did not receive a central contract when the most recent England team was announced at the end of last summer, and was not initially chosen to play on the Test tour of India before Christmas when the announcement was made last September. However he was eventually added to the squad a month later and that is how he made his comeback.

He was dropped last summer for the final test against South Africa following hints of disharmony in the dressing room and after doubt was cast on his Test future. And he admitted to sending South African team members messages he described as “provocative.”

“Constructive and cordial” talks

However, it seems there has now been full reconciliation following “constructive and cordial” talks with the ECB. Having agreed a return to the game in all formats, Pietersen will play in the three-Test series which ends in New Zealand on March 26 on the same terms as other players. From Auckland he will travel to India, where he will play for the Delhi Daredevils on April 3.

He will then fly back to the UK in the first week of May, ahead of the summer’s first Test against New Zealand later the same month. And the current crops of contracts runs until the end of September this year.

Preparing for the new season

With some exciting cricket ahead in 2013, Pietersen won’t be the only one looking forward to some great matches. And if you run a club or team, you’re no doubt looking ahead to this year’s season as well.

The quieter winter months are the ideal time to do a complete inventory of your cricket equipment and see what you need so that you’re all ready for the summer. Check now to see what items will last another season or two, which ones could be repaired and those which need replacing completely.
